Hey, we have something unique here… For the first time I will be reviewing two toys at once and not just that these are TWO Bumblebees for the upcoming TTFM the movie! I will review the toys in three categories:
- Sculpt (Form and Color)
- Articulation(Movable Parts and how can it be moved)
- Fun Factor (How did I enjoy it)
[Sculpt]Alternate Mode:
Bumblebee originally appears as a 1974 broken up Camaro. At one point of the movie, he may (or may not) will be upgraded into the 2008 Concept design of the GM Camaro. The 1974 Camaro is colored bright yellow and sports blacks spots in its body showing a battered car that left for some years in some junkyard. The windshield is opaque and black marks run down on top of the car.The 2008 Camaro sports a totally different look, with more curved shapes and sporting a more orange body paint. The black lines running down the car is still present and it’s windshield a translucent piece of plastic
Robot Mode:
The 1974 Camaro Bumblebee when in Robot Mode, more black parts are shown. The 1974 form also sports two shoulder-mounted cannon. Its chest is also the front part of the car but it’s positioned to have the grill face down. The 2008 Camaro Bumblebee is surprisingly larger than the 1974 Camaro, it also sports a look that resembles Alternator designs. Like the 1974 version, the chest is the front part of the car, but unlike the 1974 version it’s positioned to have the grill face forward. While in this mode, the translucent parts are clearly visible and provides additional details to the toy. However on both mode, Bumblebee’s plate number is still located on his crotch.
[Articulation]
Though they look the same, the way they can move is quite different. The 1974 camaro lacks a lot of the joints that the 2008 Camaro sports. In fact look at the kick test.
Seeing from the picture, who will notice that the 2008 Camaro can do an axe kick, while the 1974 can barely manage a sidekick.
[Fun Factor]
Bumblebee also sports the “Automorph Technology” which is triggered through the chest of the toy. Though fun, please be careful when handling the “Automorph feature” (Refer to the previous reviews).
[Overall]
If the choice is given between the two modes, the 2008 concept car is a clear winner, but I have soft spot for the old 1974 model. Though the design of the 2008 is superior, it wouldn’t hurt to get the original form of Bumblebee for the Transformers: Movie.
RATING:
1974: B
2008: A-
